
The Inter Ministerial Central Team brought to assess the losses incurred due to drought during 2024 kharif season, interacting with farmers in Anantapur district on Wednesday.
District Collector Dr. V. Vinod Kumar sought a financial assistance of ₹112.05 crore from the Centre for drought relief measures in the district.
A team of Inter Ministerial Central Team (ICMT) visited various parts of district to assess the losses incurred due to the drought conditions during the 2024 kharif season. The team was led by Department of Rural Development Under-Secretary Jayanti Kanojia.
The team first reached Mannila village, where they were welcomed by the Collector. The team later went through the photo exhibition organised by the district administration to give a first-hand information about the drought conditions in the district. The Collector, along with the Agriculture Department officials provided details about the drought conditions in the district.
The team members interacted with a farmer, Pannapa, and asked him about the damage his palm oil crops suffered due to the drought. The farmer said that he had raised crop in his 4.36 acre of land and spent ₹10,000-₹12,000 per acre, however, incurred losses due to the drought.
At Kandukur village, the farmers told the team members that the district is facing drought conditions almost every year and sought marketing facility and minimum support price to their produce. They also sought irrigation water through HNSS Canal and setting up of tomato processing unit in the region.
