8,000 illiterate individuals identified for literacy programme  

 

The District Literacy Mission will welcome 8,000 illiterate individuals identified through a project implemented by the Local Self-Governments department from selected grama panchayats.

Preparations have begun to make all of them literate and a survey will be conducted later to identify more people.

The literacy campaign will be carried out as part of the third phase of the New India Literacy Programme (ULLAS). The project includes 6,320 illiterate women (SC – 1,200, ST – 400, minorities – 2,480, general category – 3,920) and 1,680 men from 60 grama panchayats. The project is being implemented with financial assistance from the Central and State governments.
