Claiming that Andhra Pradesh is witnessing ‘unprecedented and atrocious developments’ during the NDA government’s tenure, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said that his party would fight as the ‘voice of the people’ against the ‘deteriorating system’.

Addressing a meeting of the party’s Political Advisory Committee (PAC), the highest decision-making body of the YSRCP, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the coalition government of brazenly arresting people and foisting false cases upon them to create an atmosphere of fear to subdue the dissenting voices.

“It is time the YSRCP stood up for the people and started questioning the government, which is making all efforts to suppress issues of public interest, corruption and bad governance. The government is resorting to diversion tactics, either by making arrests of key-profile people of the YSRCP or by spreading false narratives against the party leadership,” the former Chief Minister alleged.

“Stay connected with the cadre at the grassroots level. We must take up the people’s issues,” he advised the YSRCP cadre.

‘Vindictive politics’

He described the arrest of former Intelligence chief P.S.R. Anjaneyulu, and the questioning of MP P.V. Mithun Reddy and other former officials as ‘vindictive politics’.

“With the change in the guard, the NDA govenrment is trying to implicate YSRCP leaders in fabricated cases,” the former Chief Minister said.

“Lands are given away to companies of choice without proper checks and balances. Contracts are being awarded at inflated prices without following procedures or prudence. Anarchy will prevail in the State if the government continues in this manner,” he alleged and asked the party cadres to help people understand these ‘malicious intentions’ of the government.

The former Chief Minister said the State’s revenues were shrinking, and wealth was being created for a select few. “These are indications of financial indiscipline,” he said.

All welfare schemes, which were implemented during the YSRCP’s rule, have come to a halt. The promises made by the NDA have not been fulfilled while debts are mounting, he added.
