Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday said that the alliance between the VCK and the DMK is based on principles and not on bargaining for more number of seats to contest in the elections.
Speaking at the victory conference for getting recognised as a State political party by the Election Commission of India (ECI) here, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that both parties are on the same page in opposing the caste system, imposition of Hindi and protection of mother tongue.
“Despite its alliance with DMK, VCK strongly demanded a CBI investigation on the Vengaivayal issue, as we were not satisfied with the investigation done by the CB-CID of the Tamil Nadu police. Has AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami ever visited Vengaivayal village and met affected persons?,” he said.
Taking a dig at portraying actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay as the next Chief Minister, he said that TVK has not contested even rural local body elections, but the party chief aspires to rule the State. The TVK and its chief do not have the political experience to highlight people’s issues. “He (Mr. Vijay) is a political adolescent. He is a real hero, but VKC cadres are the field heroes, where we work closely with people,” he said.
The VCK president said that 2026 assembly elections are not meant to bargain for the total number of seats for VCK in the DMK-led alliance. Instead, the Assembly elections are aimed to defeat Hindutva forces that are trying to get a foothold in Tamil Nadu. He called his party cadre to work with cadres of alliance partners to ensure the victory of the alliance.
He advised senior party leaders of the VCK not to participate in political debates and interviews that are organised in social media platforms until the coming 2026 Assembly elections as he said that a section of political parties wanted to create confusion in DMK-led alliance. Such a trend will harm the prospects of the alliance in the Assembly elections, he said.
