Amaravati housing projects: Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu seeks Singapore’s collaboration

 Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called upon the Singapore Housing Development Board (HDB) to collaborate in the State’s upcoming urban housing projects, especially in Amaravati. He observed that Singapore had already provided a master plan for the capital city and noted that the World Bank is also participating in the construction process.

The appeal came during the second day of his official visit to Singapore on Monday (July 28, 2025), where Mr. Naidu and his delegation toured the acclaimed Bidadari Estate, a large-scale public housing project designed to house more than 10,000 families. The 250-acre project, developed under the “City in a Garden” concept, impressed the visiting delegation with its sustainable design, environmental sensitivity, and community-oriented layout.

Officials from the Singapore Housing Development Board and the Urban Redevelopment Authority explained to the Chief Minister how the project was developed without harming natural water resources or cutting down trees, offering valuable insights into environmentally conscious construction. A cremation ground in the area had also been transformed into a vibrant public park, reflecting Singapore’s innovative urban planning ethos.

“The Bidadari project stands as a remarkable example of integrating green spaces with modern housing. It demonstrates how urban development can be both inclusive and environmentally responsible,” Mr. Naidu commented.

The Chief Minister shared the State’s vision for building Amaravati as a world-class capital city based on modern planning principles, incorporating sustainability, affordability, and innovation. He acknowledged that past policy decisions had strained relations between the two governments and emphasised that his current visit aimed to restore trust and transparency.

“This is an opportunity to learn from Singapore’s global best practices and ensure that Andhra Pradesh’s urban development is both visionary and people-centric,” Mr. Naidu stated, expressing confidence that renewed cooperation would bring tangible benefits to the people of the State.

Following the visit, the Andhra Pradesh team engaged in high-level meetings with representatives from HDB, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, and the World Bank. The discussions focussed on potential partnerships in housing and urban development projects in Andhra Pradesh, including in Amaravati and other growing cities.

The visit is part of Andhra Pradesh’s broader efforts to attract international collaboration and investment in infrastructure, housing, and sustainable urban growth.
