The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) would organise an agitation in Tirunelveli on the International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025 against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government over its alleged failure to control offences against women and children, party general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran said on Sunday (March 2, 2025.)
In a statement, Mr. Dhinakaran criticised the DMK government over the alleged circulation of illegal drugs that were among the reasons for offences reported against women. “Offences against women were being reported from educational institutions to bus terminuses and other public places,” he said.
“Such offences were on the rise, even after legislation was enacted for stringent punishment for offenders,” he pointed out. Mr. Dhinakaran further charged that “supporters and sympathisers of the DMK” being in the background of these offences only weakened the intention of legislation.
