Anantapur police launch month-long drive to curb accidents

Anantapur Police have planned a month-long special drives against drunken driving, helmet-less driving and other violations as part of their efforts to curb road accidents in the district.

According to Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh, the police would be conducting special drive to curb drunken driving across the district. The SP said police officers have kept a close watch on drunken driving and those consuming alcohol in public places. To keep a check on drunken driving, the police have conducted breath analyser tests on auto, two-wheeler, car, lorry and van drivers and caught 53 persons driving under the influence of alcohol.

The police have also been creating awareness on the danger involved in drunken driving as it may lead to fatalities and asked the drivers not to drive their vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Similarly, the police have cracked the whip on drinking in open places and registered 93 cases. The ongoing drive against drunken driving will be held till August 10. From August 11 to 17, the police would focus on high speed driving. Rash driving is claiming the lives of several youngsters and the police would be focussing the drive on major roads and highways.

From August 18 to 24, a drive against helmet-less driving by two-wheelers will be conducted followed by a drive for identification of black spots in the next week.

The district police had been focussing on preventing road accidents, creating awareness on cyber crimes and crimes against women and girls and had been taking up various awareness programmes.
