Annuru GP in Mandya dist. stands out for making record number of rangolis, draws attention

Annuru Gram Panchayat in Mandya district’s Maddur taluk has earned a name for itself by creating a record number of rangolis drawn simultaneously.

On the occasion of National Panchayat Raj day on April 27, 1,544 participants from three villages — Annuru, Alabujanahalli and Karkalli that come under the jurisdiction of Annuru Gram Panchayat — drew 1,418 rangolis, earning widespread attention.

While 818 participants from Annuru village drew 728 rangolis, 373 participants from Alabujanahalli drew 373 rangolis and 353 participants from Karkalli made 317 rangolis, said an official statement.

The rangoli drawing competition was organised to promote women empowerment and their active participation in local governance. “The participants used only natural materials like rice, flour, turmeric powder and coloured sand to promote cultural heritage, community participation and awareness of grassroots democratic governance,” the statement added.

“We are extremely happy that this achievement was made possible through active participation of women. The support of senior officials, elected Panchayat members and the administrative board was instrumental in this success,” said Ashwini M.R., Panchayat Development Officer, Annuru Gram Panchayat, in a statement.

A felicitation function for the panchayat will be held on June 24.
