Applications invited for higher secondary teacher transfer for 2025-26

After a long wait, the State government has invited applications online for general transfer of higher secondary teachers for the 2025-26 academic year.

No higher secondary teacher transfers were held in the 2024-25 year despite the urgings of higher secondary teachers’ organisations.

In the wake of past complaints of undue delay in initiating and completing the transfer process, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty had announced last month that the higher secondary general transfers for the new academic year would be completed by May to facilitate the joining of teachers in their new schools before the start of the session on June 1.

Online portal

Applications can be submitted on the portal www.dhsetransfer.kerala.gov.in till May 3.

Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) that had been entrusted with the procedures related to the transfer had made arrangements for teachers to update their profiles and Principals to make necessary corrections, and for accurate reporting of vacancies.

The transfers will be based on this information, and the submission of incorrect details will lead to disciplinary action, including the transfer of such teachers. An opportunity has been provided to rectify any such errors by directly visiting the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education with relevant documents on Monday and Tuesday (April 28 and 29), as per a circular.

The transfer guidelines say that teachers who have not confirmed their profile will not be able to submit their applications.

Teachers who complete three years of service in government higher secondary schools on May 31 this year can apply for the transfer. In tribal, hilly, and remote areas, teachers with two years of service can apply. If they have two years of continuous service, one year of service will be considered as that of one-and-a-half years.

Unlimited schools

Teachers can select an unlimited number of schools for the transfer. At present, options can be given in schools with open vacancy too.

Posts of teachers who complete five years of service in a home station/revenue district on May 31 shall be treated as open vacancy.

The authenticity of documents submitted under the retained and priority categories will be subject to vigilance verification this year.

More than 7,815 vacancies are currently available for transfer. Malappuram district has the highest number of vacancies (1,124), followed by Kannur (944) and Kozhikode (747). The districts with the fewest vacancies are Pathanamthitta (134), Idukki (184), and Kottayam (232).

Among subjects, English teachers have the highest number of vacancies (859), closely followed by Economics (527), and Mathematics (482). German, Music, and Geology each has only one vacancy Statewide.

The number of vacancies is subject to change. Real-time vacancy details, categorised by subject at the State and district levels, are available on the portal.
