The Byadarahalli police have registered a case against a 26-year-old woman who, following a fight with her husband, allegedly fed her daughter rat poison before consuming it herself at her house on Thursday (July 31, 2025).

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Chandrika. She was married to Lokesh, 41, a garment factory worker. The couple was living with their 1.8 years old daughter, Charvi, while their six-year-old son was staying with his grandmother in Koratagere.

Lokesh, in his statement to the police, said that Chandrika used to stay at home to look after the baby, and they couple would quarrel constantly over money and other domestic issues.

On Thursday, the police said, after one such fight, Lokesh left for work leaving behind an angry Chandrika.

The accused reportedly fed rat poison to Charvi and later consumed it with tea herself, before calling her husband and informing him about it.

Lokesh rushed home and, with the help of neighbours, took the duo to a nearby hospital where Charvi succumbed later.

Chandrika is being treated and is said to be out of danger. The Byadarahalli police have booked Chandrika and are waiting for her recovery to question her and ascertain the exact reason for taking such an extreme step.
