Bill to provide for setting up of new Agriculture University in Mandya tabled

The Universities of Agricultural Sciences (Amendment) Bill was tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday to clear legal decks for the setting up of a new University of Agricultural Sciences in Mandya.

The proposed university, to be located at V.C. Farm in Mandya, will comprise districts of Mandya, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu.

While related facilities including colleges and training centres in Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru and Hassan will be transferred to the proposed university from the jurisdiction of University of Agricultural Sciences-Bengaluru, those in Kodagu will be transferred from Keladi Shivappa Mayaka Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences University, Shivamogga.

The Bill has estimated the cost of setting up the new university at ₹287 crore. The formation of the new university in Mandya had been announced in the State Budget.
