BRS asks government to fill vacancies after notifying Supreme Court sub-categorisation

HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is trying to deceive the Scheduled Castes by not implementing reservation in tune with the classification done by a committee appointed for the purpose, despite his statements that Telangana would be the first State in the country to implement sub-category reservation for SCs.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday (March 9, 2025), former Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah, former legislators M. Anand and G. Balaraju and party leader R.S. Praveen Kumar said the Supreme Court had given its verdict in favour of classification of SC reservation after 30 years of legal battle. However, the Telangana government led by Mr. Revanth Reddy was trying to fill vacancies without implementing SC categorisation.

They stated that Madiga community alone had the population of 33.33 lakh, while Malas were 15 lakh in the State. But, the Malas were given 5% reservation and 10% to Madigas. Instead, Madigas should get 11%, they felt.

Meanwhile, senior leader of the party T. Harish Rao, speaking separately, said Mr. Revanth Reddy spoke lies at the Mahila Shakti celebrations organised on Saturday (March 8, 2025). The Chief Minister claims as if his Government had given ₹21,000 crore interest-free loans to women self help groups in their first year of his rule.

He pointed out that the government was following the GO issued by the previous BRS government to give interest-free loans only up to ₹5 lakh a group and with that criteria just 20% of loans to be given to the SHGs would be eligible for interest-free scheme and the remaining loans, if given, could attract interest burden of 12%.
