Burglars decamped with 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and ₹40,000 cash from the house of a nurse at Viruthampattu village near Katpadi here on Sunday.
The police said that H. Vijayasri, 46, a nurse at a private hospital in Vellore. She had left for her native village for a medical emergency. When she returned home on Sunday morning, she found the front door broken. Three cupboards and an almirah were damaged. Valuables including cash, gold jewellery and silver objects, were missing. The CCTV cameras at the porch were damaged and their hard disks missing.
On her alert, Viruthampattu police went to spot with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. CCTV camera footage of the area was inspected. Special teams were formed to nab the culprits. A case has been registered.
In Ambur, 25 gold sovereigns, ₹30,00 cash and silver objects were found missing from the house of Rakib Rahman, 28, a shoe company owner when he returned home after visiting his in-laws in Bengaluru. Ambur town police registered a case. A probe is under way.
