Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegade has recommended disciplinary action against a home guard posted at the CET examination centre in Shivamoga following allegations of forcing candidates to remove the sacred thread (Janivara) while entering the exam hall.

Mr. Hegade told The Hindu that he had demanded a preliminary report about the incident from the officers. Based on the report, he had recommended action against the concerned home guard. The DC took this measure, following Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa’s instruction to act with regard to the allegation.

Representatives of Brahmin Sanghagala Okkuta, on Thursday (April 17, 2025), met the DC and complained to him that Brahmin students appearing for CET at Adichunchanagiri College centre in the city were forced to remove the sacred thread before being allowed to enter the centre.

They demanded suitable action against the officials concerned, labelling the removal of thread as “anti-Brahmin” and “anti-Hindu”. The incident hurt the students who were about to take the exam, an important milestone in the students’ careers, they said.
