Air passengers, especially those in the international and long-distance domestic sectors, passing through the Kochi airport may better prepare for a bit of stretching before boarding flights.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has launched a novel initiative aimed at a healthy and better flying experience. Though not mandatory, it encourages travellers to engage in a brief stretching session of two to three minutes before boarding their flights, to address potential health issues, particularly during long journeys and colder months. It is done in compliance with a circular issued by the CISF Airport Sector Headquarters on January 1 to drive home the message that the CISF is not just concerned about the security of passengers but also about their comfort and health.
“Stretching before boarding a flight is beneficial because it helps prevent muscle stiffness and discomfort from prolonged sitting on the plane, improve blood circulation, reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis, and promote overall relaxation by easing tension in key muscle groups like calves, hamstrings, hips, shoulders, and neck, especially on long flight,” the circular said.
The session includes six simple yet effective stretching exercises designed to improve blood flow, reduce fatigue, and prepare passengers for a more comfortable flight. The initiative had met with an enthusiastic response from passengers, CISF sources said.
Videos of passengers participating in the sessions have begun circulating on social media as well. The CISF has also encouraged airline operators to adopt this first-of-its-kind programme to further promote a culture of wellness in air travel.
The programme aimed at enhanced passenger experience in 2025 and beyond may in due course be extended to all passengers based on feedback and suggestions, said the circular.
