Curbs have been imposed on New Year celebrations on Tuesday (December 31, 2024) night in undivided Kurnool and Anantapur districts to check drunken driving and overspeeding by revellers.
Nandyal Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana, in a statement, said those who want to organise events welcoming the New Year have to take prior permission from the police and have to install CCTVs at the place where the events were being held. He said no loud speakers or music systems should be used beyond 10.30 pm as per the Supreme Court guidelines. He said no permission would be given for using DJ sound boxes or to burst fire crackers at outdoor events.
Mr. Adhiraj Singh Rana asked people to celebrate the occasion in a peaceful manner and cooperate with the police by celebrating the event without any untoward incidents. The SP said police would start vehicle checkings from 10 pm on Tuesday at all junctions and pickets would be set up at important places. Further, he wanted the public not to organise any indecent dances on the occasion. All wine shops should be closed as per the stipulated time, he said.
Anantapur Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh said patrolling would be intensified in all the police station limits and bandobust would be strengthened in Anantapur town in particular.
Kurnool district police too imposed similar restrictions and warned of stringent action against those who indulge in eve-teasing or misbehaving with women in the guise of celebrations. The police asked women and girls to be cautious as some unruly revellers might misbehave with them or snatch their belongings in the guise of extending wishes. Police said drunken driving would be dealt severely and violation would attract a punishment of six months imprisonment or ₹10,000 fine. The driving licences of violators would be suspended for three months or more.
Mr. Jagadeesh said strict action would be taken as per law against those who roam in groups, perform bike stunts or cause inconvenience to women and general public. He urged the parents to keep a tab on their children and asked the general public to inform the police about any anti-social activity to them.
Sri Sathya Sai district Superintendent of Police V Ratna said bike racings, rash driving and driving bikes by removing silencers has been prohibited and violators would be dealt severely.
