The proposed delimitation of constituencies based on the latest population data suggested by the Centre is aimed at reducing the parliamentary representation of States that refuse to toe the line of the Centre, Binoy Viswam, MP, and State secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), has said.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said the States that effectively implemented the population control measures as part of a national policy would be at the receiving end if the delimitation of constituencies is carried out on the basis of the census data.
The meeting called by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai on March 22 to chart out the future course of action is a welcome step, said Mr. Viswam in reply to the invitation extended by Mr. Stalin to the CPI to take part in the meeting.
