Devotion paves way for self-discipline: Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan

Maharashtra Governor C. P.Radhakrishnan has said that devotion is a key for furtherance of self-discipline.

Referring to the life of Saint Composer Thyagabrahmam, the Maharashtra Governor pointed out that Sri Thyagarajar had composed around 800 ‘kritis’ out of which more than 700 were recited on Lord Rama. Hearing of music brings cheerfulness and peace.

Stating that music remains beyond language, caste and religion, Mr. Radhakrishnan added that to remain clam and peaceful one should be devout, which is a key for furtherance of self-discipline.

He also recalled the contributions of the Saint Poet towards the ‘bhakthi margam’ by composing songs on Lord Sri Rama, while inaugurating the 178th Aradhana Fesitval at Thiruvaiyaru near Thanjavur on Tuesday (January 14, 2025).

The Maharashtra Governor also commended the efforts of Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha in protecting and propagating the works of Sri Thyagarajar in its true form. The ceremony was attended by the Rajya Sabha MP G.K. Vasan, Thanjavuru Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam and others.

The Aradhana festival, which commenced on January 14, 2025 will conclude on January 18, 2025 with the recitation of ‘pancharatna kritis’ by the musicians on the courtyard of Sri Thyagabrahmam’s ‘adhishtanam’ on the banks of the Cauvery at Thiruvaiyaru.
