Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday (December 20, 2024) asserted that though the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had set a target of winning 200 seats in the 2026 Assembly election, he had since realised that the party would definitely go on to win more seats.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, who asked whether the Erode East Assembly seat — which fell vacant after the death of E.V.K.S. Elangovan — would be won by the DMK in the upcoming bypoll, he said the DMK was part of the INDIA bloc, and that the alliance would undoubtedly win the seat. When asked whether the seat would be assigned to the Congress, he said a decision on the same would be taken only after consulting with the party.
Speaking about the row over B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament, he said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would face the case registered against him legally. On Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks, Mr. Stalin said agitations were being planned in consultation with the other leaders of the INDIA bloc.
Responding to a query on ‘One Nation, One Election’, Mr. Stalin said the legislation would bury democratic values and defined it a “nasty and tragic Bill.”
He also condoled the death of former Coimbatore MP Era. Mohan.
