Doctor from Kerala dies after trek in Anamalai Tiger Reserve

A doctor from Kerala, aged 26, died of suspected dehydration and other complications after completing a trek in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Ajzal A. Sain, a native of Thiruvananthapuram.

ATR authorities said that Sain and his friend Fadil Thayyib Raj registered for trekking along the Top Slip – Pandaravarai – Karian Shola – Top Slip stretch. The two were accompanied by two experienced guides from ATR.

“The guides asked Sain whether to continue the trek midway, after noticing signs of fatigue in him. He told them that he is a doctor and he was fit enough to continue. The duo completed the trek and returned to Top Slip at 4.30 p.m. Sain wanted to sit for sometime and suddenly his condition deteriorated,” said an official.

According to ATR authorities, Sain fell sick after completing the trek and was rushed to the government hospital at Vettaikaranpudur, where he died.

ATR authorities added that Sain’s family has been informed about the incident. The family has lodged a complaint with the Anamalai police. The post-mortem examination will be held on Monday.
