Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao warned the investors or companies likely to participate in the proposed auction of 400 acres land in Kancha Gachibowli, adjacent to the University of Hyderabad (UoH), not to do so as the lands would be taken back whenever the BRS returns to power in Telangana.
“Those planning to participate in the auction will lose their lands, and this is a clear warning for them not to do so,” he said at a press conference at the party office in Hyderabad on Thursday (April 3, 2025). He claimed that the party will return to power, and that he wants to commit to the people of Hyderabad that the same place would be developed into an eco park.
KTR said that he doesn’t want to get into the controversy of whether the land belongs to the University or the government but believes that it belonged to the city and it has to be saved from turning into a concrete jungle.
BRS intends to march to UoH if govt doesn’t soften its stand
Expressing his solidarity with the students claiming that the lands belonged to the varsity, he said the BRS would stand not only with the students but also everyone fighting for it. He claimed that the BRS was not party to the agitation and did not directly participate as the agitation would get a political colour. “However, we intend to march to the University if the government doesn’t soften its stand.”
KTR questioned the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for the aggressive approach adopted to take the lands when the issue was in the State High Court. “What is wrong if the Chief Minister speaks to the students and others opposing the auction of lands?” he asked. It is the only lung space in that part of the area, and it has to be protected. A Chief Minister cannot be arrogant and he is just a custodian of people’s property and doesn’t own them.
The BRS leader took potshots at Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka that the opposition was misleading the people with AI-generated images of animals in the 400 acres land and said Mr. Vikramarka revealed his ‘Artificial Intelligence’. He said the BRS was not against IT parks and the government has sufficient lands in the Future City it plans to develop, and the companies can be planned there.
KTR claimed that the previous BRS government transformed Hyderabad into a green city and won many national and international awards. A green revolution was started in Telangana, planting 270 crore saplings. Even the Forest Department reports showed that the green cover in Hyderabad increased by 7.7%.
He said that even the central government revealed in Parliament that the green cover increased the most in 2021 – when the BRS was in power.
