E-pass mandatory for tourists entering through five checkposts in the Nilgiris

The Nilgiris district administration has clarified that e-pass is mandatory for tourists from other districts and States entering the district through Kallar, Kunjapannai, Mel Gudalur, Masinagudi and Geddai checkposts.

The district administration stated that the clarification came from the Madras High Court, and that the system would begin operating from Tuesday.

While the clarification may sound like a relaxation of the existing rules, tourists wanting to visit the major towns of Udhagamandalam, Coonoor and Kotagiri would still have to procure an e-pass as they would have to pass through at least one of the five mentioned checkposts.
