Eight people sustained injuries after Chirala-bound private bus from Hyderabad overturned near an Indian Oil petrol filling station at Shantinagar village in Nakirikallu mandal on Saturday morning.
Palnadu District Superintendent of Police Kanchi Srinivasa Rao said that negligence of the driver led to a bus accident, but swift action by locals and police averted a major tragedy.
At around 5.45 a.m., a non-AC bus of Sri Lakshmi Gayatri Travels, with 40 passengers on board, overturned at Shantinagar village. The driver lost control on the vehicle which swerved off the road and overturned.
Alerted by locals, police teams from Nakirikallu and Narasaraopet rushed to the spot and pulled the passengers out of the vehicle. Eight passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to a hospital. A 27-year-old woman who was trapped under the bus was rescued using cranes and earthmovers.
The SP appreciated the prompt response of the police, locals, and media. Senior officers, including Narasaraopet DSP K. Nageswara Rao, coordinated the rescue efforts.
