Elephant Ezhattumukham Ganapathy, who shot to fame during the rescue operation of an injured elephant at Athirappilly, has been found injured. The elephant, frequently seen in the Athirappilly area, reportedly sustained a leg injury.
The Forest department has deployed a team of veterinary doctors to assess and monitor his condition. Local residents believe that the injury might have been caused by the thorny undergrowth in the area. The medical team is keeping a close watch on the jumbo to determine if immediate treatment is required. A decision on his care will be taken based on a report of the medical team.
Ganapathy became widely known after his heart-warming gesture towards the injured elephant during its rescue operation. Ganapathy tried to protect the tranquillised elephant by giving it support from falling down. This act of camaraderie between the two elephants quickly went viral, capturing the hearts of many.
The injured elephant, which was shifted to Kodanad elephant camp, later died. There were allegations that the delay in treatment led to its death.
