Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has sought support from the Central government for the development of a green energy corridor that would ensure continuous power supply from Rayalaseema up to the North Andhra districts.
Participating in the States’ Energy Ministers’ meeting on strengthening the DISCOMs convened by the Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Yesso Naik in Lucknow on Saturday, Mr. Ravi Kumar said the DISCOMs in Andhra Pradesh were burdened with a debt of roughly ₹50,000 crore due to their mishandling by the previous YSRCP government.
Besides, subsidies, which the government had owed to the DISCOMs, were not paid on time. However, after the NDA replaced YSRCP, a sum of ₹11,352 crore was paid to the DISCOMs and it helped in reviving them.
In the 2025-26 budget, ₹13,000 crore was allocated to the power sector.
Mr. Ravi Kumar requested Mr. Naik to help establish battery storage power projects, and wanted the Inter-State transmission charges be reduced.
Further, he urged the Centre to implement the fuel adjustment charge policy in a timely manner and requested the necessary clearance for making certain amendments to the A.P. Electricity Regulatory Commission Act.
For solving the problems of farmers, he sought allocation of 5 lakh agricultural pumpsets under the PM KUSUM scheme.
