The Excise department has launched a special enforcement drive to prevent illicit activities related to the Abkari Act and NDPS offences during Christmas and New Year revelries in the district.
Special squads would conduct inspections across the district until January 4, Excise department sources said.
This initiative aimed to curb the potential resurgence of crimes such as illegal alcohol trade, spirit smuggling, sale of adulterated beverages, and cannabis trafficking during the festive season, the sources said.
Extensive inspections will be conducted at various check posts on the Kerala-Karnataka and Kerala-Tamil Nadu borders to prevent the entry of banned tobacco products, narcotics, and alcohol from neighbouring States.
The primary goal of the special enforcement team is to crack down on these offences through intelligence gathering and cooperation with the public and other government departments.
Dedicated teams will also be assigned to identify individuals involved in the sale of cannabis and narcotics to students. An Excise control room has been set up at Munderi here and will operate round the clock during the drive. The control room can be reached at 04936 288215.
