A man accused of posing as a government official to dupe unsuspecting youth under the pretext of providing government jobs was arrested in a joint operation by the Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone and the Musheerabad police.

The accused, identified as Konakanchi Kiran Kumar, 30, a resident of Yousufguda, has cheated at least five youngsters of ₹20 lakh, including Jerupula Subash, Kumar, and Ashiwini, by falsely claiming he could secure them government positions.

According to police, Kumar had been falsely presenting himself as a Forest Department officer or a police constable. The police seized a range of items from Kumar at the time of arrest, including a counterfeit Forest Beat Officer ID card, khaki uniform, police-style two-wheeler fitted with a siren, nameplates, Forest Department insignia, and a fake registration number plate. Officers also recovered two mobile phones, ₹5.45 lakh in cash, and several original documents belonging to a victim.

The investigation revealed that Kumar would don the uniform and patrol public areas, creating an illusion of official authority. He then targeted vulnerable job seekers, promising them employment in various government departments in return for large sums of money.

Kumar has an elaborate criminal history, with eight prior cases of cheating and impersonation across districts such as Khammam, Sangareddy, Suryapet, Rachakonda, and Hyderabad between 2017 and 2024. Charges against him include cheating, criminal breach of trust, forgery, and impersonation.

The arrested individual, along with the seized material, was handed over to Musheerabad police for further investigation.
