The farmers of Kandukur intensified their stir against the State government’s proposal to acquire 8,300 acres of fertile lands for Indosol solar project.
Thousands of farmers led by Bharata Chaitanya Yuvajana Party (BCY) chief Bode Ramachandra Yadav took out a 3-km march and also staged a demonstration on the national highway near Kandukur in protest against the move to forcibly acquire 8,300 acres for the Indosol solar project proposed to come up near the Ramayapatnam port in SPSR Nellore district.
Tension prevailed at Karedu village in the Kandukur Assembly constituency as the police personnel found it hard to regulate the irate farmers, who gathered at the spot for the demonstration scheduled on Sunday.
Though all the roads leading to the venue were closed well ahead, Mr. sRamachandra Yadav reached Karedu through the sea route and marched to the protest site along with thousands of farmers.
Addressing a large gathering of farmers, he faulted the State for proceeding unilaterally with the proposal without consulting the farmers. He also termed as reprehensible the attempt to muzzle the farmers who had embarked on the protest move.
Mr. Ramachandra Yadav warned the government that the farmers’ protests would be intensified further, if the State failed to bring the stakeholders to the negotiation table.
As traffic on the national highway came to a grinding halt, Sub Collector Sri Puja rushed to the spot and offered an assurance to submit a report to the government on the ground situation.
