Former Minister and veteran communist G. Sudhakaran has criticised writer M. Mukundan for the latter’s statement that he would stand and cooperate with the government.
Speaking at a function at Ambalappuzha on Sunday, Mr. Sudhakaran said that writers should criticise fearlessly. “M. Mukundan said that writers should stand with the government. I don’t know which government he was referring to. Does that mean that if another government comes to power instead of the one he intended, writers should support them as well? That is opportunism. Is this what writers should be saying? Writers should criticise fearlessly, regardless of who is in power,” Mr. Sudhakaran said.
Without mentioning names, Mr. Sudhakaran said that a leader called on the youth to look up to and learn from an expatriate billionaire from Karunagappally. “It was a meeting organised to praise the billionaire. The message that has emerged is that young people should look up to billionaires. There is a need to analyse how the Karunagappally native became a billionaire,” he said.
Mr. Sudhakaran said that police officers who assaulted people in Pathanamthitta were unfit to remain in service. He also said that the Department of Cultural Affairs now lacked funds to run cultural institutions.
