GHMC’s assets to be mapped and integrated with property survey

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to take stock of its assets across the city and integrate it with the ongoing survey of properties towards creation of a comprehensive database.

The assets to be identified and geo-tagged include parks, open spaces, toilets, function halls, municipal markets, community halls and stormwater drain network too.

On Thursday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asked the Municipal Administration & Urban Development authorities to take up a drone survey of the areas within the Outer Ring Road to be demarcated as the Telangana Core Urban Region.

The GHMC, on its part, has finished the drone survey of properties in the city, and the ground truthing of the drone survey results is underway. It is estimated that the number of properties in the GHMC database could rise up by a minimum of 30% after the survey, which means a windfall for the financially beleaguered corporation.

The corporation is also taking up ground verification of its assets as part of the survey, during which all the GHMC properties will be enumerated and their present condition recorded.

“Before everything else, we wish to map the stormwater drain network. We are launching a pilot in five wards initially, which will be extended to all the 150 wards eventually,” shared the Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Anurag Jayanti.

Assistant Engineers will be provided a mobile app to upload the details of the stormwater drains in their purview such as length, capacity and condition, before the data is collated and entered into the unified database.

Besides, a Differential GPS survey will be taken up to identify parks and open spaces in the city, Mr. Jayanti informed.

Of the property survey, he said ground truthing of a total seven lakh properties has been completed so far. A quality check will be taken up in order to ensure authenticity of the results.
