The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has unveiled a ₹1,534.27-crore Budget for the 2025-26 financial year. Of this, ₹1,018.23 crore is earmarked for expenditure, while ₹516.04 crore will be carried forward to the next fiscal. The estimates also include ₹670.23 crore carried over from the 2024-25 financial year.
The projected expenditure for 2025-26 is ₹352.52 crore higher than the revised estimate of ₹665.73 crore for 2024-25. Similarly, the expected revenue stands at ₹864.04 crore — an increase of ₹207.83 crore over the previous year’s revised revenue estimate of ₹656.21 crore.
Though the Budget was meant to be approved before March 31, the GMC Council cleared it on April 7, following administrative delays, including the Mayor’s resignation.
Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday, GMC Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu said the Council has resolved to achieve 100% collection of all taxes and dues this financial year. He added that efforts are also under way to plug loopholes in administrative spending.
Mr. Srinivasulu said that of the ₹187.61 crore estimated capital expenditure for 2025-26 from GMC’s own revenues, ₹32.08 crore (17.1%) will be allocated to Scheduled Castes (SC) residential areas, ₹9.99 crore (5.33%) to Scheduled Tribes (ST) areas, ₹9.37 crore (5%) for women and child welfare, ₹75.07 crore (40%) for slum development, and the remaining ₹61.10 crore (32.2%) for general expenditure.
He noted that a major portion of this expenditure would go towards strengthening social infrastructure, including drainage systems, road construction, avenue plantations and enhancing green spaces across the city.
