HC rejects Gowtham Reddy’s anticipatory bail plea

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday dismissed an anticipatory bail plea filed by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader P. Gowtham Reddy.

Mr. Reddy is an accused in the attempted murder case of Umamaheswara Sastry. He had filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the case, but the High Court rejected it.

Ganduri Umamaheswara Sastry complained to Satyanarayanapuram police in Vijayawada, alleging that Mr. Reddy illegally grabbed his land with forged documents and attempted to kill him. The police registered a case under Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder, relevant sections of forgery, and other alleged offences.

In another development, a  Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition related to the power agreements made with Adani was heard in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. During the hearing, the High Court decided to postpone further proceedings until after the Sankranti holidays. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the power agreements had caused a financial loss to the State’s revenue.
