The State Technical Education department has suspended Roy Varghese, head accountant at Government Polytechnic College at Vandiperiyar in Idukki, on corruption charges. Mr. Varghese is accused of misappropriating e-grant funds at Government Engineering College in Idukki when he was working a senior clerk there.
The order stated that the department appointed an inquiry committee, which found that during his service term in 2021-2022 at Idukki Government Engineering College, he misappropriated e-grant funds to the tune of ₹21,45,00.
The inquiry team recovered official documents which confirmed the misappropriation of funds.
Recently, the State Finance Inspection Wing under the Finance department had found huge irregularities in e-grant distribution at the college. According to sources, the college had alerted the Technical Education department about the issue in last November. However, they failed to act on it and visited the college only last week. Sources stated that the Technical Education department took action against the official only after the financial inspection wing initiated the probe.
