A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger a few intense spells of rain across the State in the coming days.
An orange alert warning of very heavy rainfall has been issued for three districts – Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur — on Thursday by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD on Tuesday, the low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean has become more marked on Tuesday.
The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards towards the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 24 hours, said the bulletin. A yellow alert has also been issued for six districts between Pathanamthitta in the south, and Wayanad in north Kerala, except for Alappuzha, on Thursday, and yellow alert for eight districts on Friday warning of isolated heavy rains.
