In 2018, the Government of India had issued an advisory to states to accept driving licenses and vehicle registrations stored in DigiLocker and mParivahan apps. The aim of this step of the government is to eliminate the need to carry documents while driving. Through this article, we will give you information about how to keep your driving license in your smartphone or how to download and keep its soft copy.
How to keep your driving license on your smartphone or download its soft copy
Before explaining the process, it is important to know that to store the license in the phone, you must have a DigiLocker account. You have to sign up in your DigiLocker using your phone number and Aadhaar number.
– First DigiLocker site Go to and sign in with your username and six-digit PIN. After this you will receive one-time password OTP on your register number.
– After signing in, click on the Get Issued Documents button.
– Now search “driving license” in the search bar.
– After this select the state government by which you have been issued the driving license.
– Now enter your driving license number and click on Get Document button. Before proceeding make sure to click on the check box in which you have to provide your consent to share your data with DigLocker.
– Now DigiLocker will receive your driving license from the transport department.
– You can see your driving license by going to the Issued Documents list.
– Soft copy of the driving license can also be downloaded by clicking on the PDF button.
– You can also keep the license in your phone by downloading the DigiLocker app.
If you don’t want to sign up to DigiLocker and are looking for an alternative, you can also download mParivahan through Google Play or Apple’s App Store. After signing up, you can find your driving license under the DL Dashboard tab.
