Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been awarded the Level 1 Accessibility Accreditation by Airports Council International (ACI) World.
The ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Programme is a global initiative aimed at helping airports evaluate and improve their accessibility standards. The Level 1 certification, regarded as the foundational stage, focuses on identifying barriers, assessing current facilities and services, and initiating the implementation of internationally accepted best practices for accessibility.
According to a press release, RGIA was assessed across several key areas, including physical infrastructure such as ramps, accessible restrooms, and clear signage, passenger services like communication aids and dedicated assistance programmes; staff training; and the airport’s overall organisational commitment to inclusivity.
“Our goal is to ensure that every traveller, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, feels welcomed, supported and empowered. Through accessible infrastructure, customised facilities, improved capacity-building programs for staff to assist persons with special needs, we are dedicated to making every journey through our airport seamless and dignified for all,” said Pradeep Panicker, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited.
