I am not aware of any power-sharing agreement: Mahadevappa

Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa said on Saturday that he was unaware of any “agreement” reached on power sharing in the Congress government and said that Mr. Siddaramaiah will continue as the Chief Minister.

When reporters asked for his reaction to the speculations about the power-sharing agreement, Mr. Mahadevappa, a close aide of Mr. Siddaramaiah, said, “When I do not know anything about any power-sharing agreement that has reached the level of party high command, how can you claim to know that such an agreement (allegedly between Mr. Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar) exists.”

Regarding the speculations about Mr. Shivakumar’s apparent closeness to the BJP and the concerns expressed by some party leaders about his participation in Mahashivarathri at Isha Foundation in Coimbatore, where he shared the stage with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Mahadevappa said, “I do not know what the Ministers or others have said about this matter. Mr. Shivakumar is the Deputy Chief Minister and the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. He has already clarified his reasons for attending the event.”

If you want to know further, you could please speak to Mr. Shivakumar, he said.

The Minister said he was not ready to answer hypothetical questions and refused to react to the speculations about the reported political moves of Mr. Shivakumar, who is a strong aspirant for the Chief Minister’s post.

Responding to questions on whether Karnataka will see a “Eknath Shinde” model of governance as predicted by the BJP leaders, the Minister said, “Karnataka has the Siddaramaiah model of governance which will continue. Whoever is making such statements, they are doing this due to an identity crisis. There are no political developments whatsoever in the Congress or the government as speculated by them (BJP leaders).”

The Minister also hit out at the Opposition for terming the B-khata drive as a move to fill the empty coffers with the entire money going to guarantee schemes, and the government is going bankrupt. “It was a long-pending demand of the people which the government has fulfilled. Anyone can talk anything but we are giving relief to the people residing in the revenue layouts,” he added.
