II PUC results see a significant dip compared to last year

The results of II PUC exam-1 for 2024-25 announced on Tuesday (April 8), show a significant dip in the pass percentage from last year. While it was 81.15% in 2023-24 it fell nearly 12% to 69.16% this year. Of the total 6,37,805 students who wrote the exam, 4,68,439 cleared.

Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa attributed it to strict vigilance, including web-streaming of the entire exam process. Similar measures for class 10 exams in 2023-24 led to a crash in the results.

“Every corner of the examination hall was web-streamed giving no room for malpractice. Introducing stricter vigilant measures could be one of the reasons for the drop in the pass percentage,” the Minister said. “Students who have failed, or those who wish to improve their marks, can take exam 2 and exam 3. As the exam process will be completed only after exam 3, we have hopes to improve the results by 3-4%,” he added.

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), while announcing the result, claimed a pass percentage of 73.45%, considering only freshers. However, the results are calculated considering the pass percentage of freshers, repeaters, and private candidates, which will bring it to 69.16% this year. Repeaters and private candidates have performed poorly with 8.9% and 27.92% pass percentage, respectively, bringing down the results.

No grace marks

This time, the department has not given any grace marks, except to push those who were on the borderline, a common practice every year. “There were 8,297 students in the borderline, and were pushed with the grace marks as per the scheme of evaluation,” Mr. Bangarappa said.
