HYDERABAD
Speakers at an industry meet organised by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (IIOR) to showcase cutting-edge innovations in oilseeds research here on Monday urged scientists to focus on creating new varieties and bio-based sustainable crop management methods and development of bio-fertilizers and bio-polymers for seed treatment.
IIOR director R.K. Mathur stated that the industry meet was organised to introduce new innovations to stakeholders and for awareness among the industries based on oilseeds. Representatives of about 47 industries and their subsidiaries, 70 representatives from start-ups and several other entrepreneurs from across the country participated in the meet.
The participants were first taken on a field visit to the standing oilseeds crop fields on the IIOR campus and the IIOR scientists explained to them about high-yielding and hybrid varieties and also products made of oilseeds. Former vice-chancellor of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (Gwalior) S.K. Rao addressed the meet.
Later, the participants were explained about new varieties and new technologies with the help of a power point presentation.
Later, memoranda of understanding were signed between IIOR and four start-ups on joint research and transfer of biotechnology. ICAR-IIMR director Tara Satyavathi and Vice-Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University D. Raji Reddy also spoke at the event.
