By incorporating sustainable development goals into education, schools and universities can empower students to become change-makers contributing to a sustainable future, Registrar of KLE Technological University Basavaraj S. Anami has said.
He was speaking at a World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development programme organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Dharwad Local Centre, in Dharwad on Tuesday on the theme “Unleashing the Power of Engineers to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals”.
Prof. Anami said that achieving the sustainable development goals required a multi-stakeholder approach, one that addressed financial, political and environmental barriers.
He emphasised that a common man can make a difference by changing habits, adapting lifestyle, spreading awareness and actively engaging in local and global initiatives. He added that every small action contributes to a bigger impact. “Governments, businesses and individuals all have a role to play in making sustainable development a reality and its implementation is essential,” he said.
Prof. Anami said that the future is in the hands of engineers as engineers are in the forefront of solving local and global sustainability challenges. “Engineers can build a better world, a sustainable world and a happy world for the future generations,” he said.
Office-bearers of the association Vijay H. Togier, Srihari K.H., K.N. Patil and others were present.
Faculty members, research scholars, professional engineers and engineers from various government departments took part in the event.
