Inter-State drug smuggling racket busted in Secunderabad

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Secunderabad said that they have busted an inter-State ganja smuggling racket by arresting a suspect in possession of 3.86 kilogram of dry cannabis worth ₹96,475.

The accused was transporting the contraband from Kendrapara, Odisha, to Secunderabad.

The accused has been identified as Lambodar Jena, 43, a resident of Bhitargarh village in Odisha.

“Jena, who was working in Hyderabad as a rebar worker, allegedly took to smuggling after being approached by various persons for ganja at his workplace,” said the police.

Jena travelled to his native village in November 2024 for his mother’s funeral. On February 17, he procured four kilograms of ganja from an unidentified seller in Kendrapara forest area at the rate of ₹1,000 per kilogram. He then took a bus to Bhubaneswar, from where he boarded the Konark Express bound for Secunderabad.

Upon arrival at Secunderabad Railway Station at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jena attempted to leave the station through the general waiting hall at platform number 1 when he was intercepted by police officers.
