Islamabad. Pakistan has to face embarrassment many times on international forums. Sometimes in the name of spreading terrorism in India and sometimes in the name of giving shelter to global terrorists. But this time the cause of embarrassment has become a film. In fact, the film ‘Joyland’, which was banned by Pakistan because it did not consider it worthy of release in the country, has been shortlisted for the Oscar award. The interesting thing is that the fundamentalists of Pakistan were terming the subject of this film as anti-social and extremely objectionable. But this film is getting praise after praise on the world stage.
Pakistani filmmaker Saim Sadiq’s film ‘joyland‘ has been shortlisted for the world famous film award Oscar. Before this, this film has also received praise in many other film festivals including Cannes. Only when this film was described as very brilliant all over the world, the rulers of Pakistan came to their senses. Then the government ordered to review the ban on ‘Joyland’. It is worth noting here that ‘Joyland’ was sent as an official entry from Pakistan for the Oscar Award. This is the first time after the country’s independence that a Pakistani film has been shortlisted for the Oscar awards. Sadiq’s directorial debut is in the running for a place in the final five in the Best International Feature category at the 2023 Academy Awards.
