In a first, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has decided to conduct two preparatory examinations for Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET-2025) aspirants to familiarise with the exam pattern.
The preparatory exam will be conducted in all the Pre-University (PU) colleges in the State, with question papers prepared at the college level. The KEA will provide the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets.
Considering that several students, mostly those from rural areas, get confused while writing KCET on OMR sheets, the KEA has decided to conduct preparatory examination. At least 10 % to 15% of students who appear for KCET were found committing mistakes in the previous years on this count, said KEA.
“When students are used to writing descriptive answers, it is common to get confused while attempting OMR and it may lead to mistakes also. So we have introduced preparatory exams,” said Prasanna H., Executive Director of KEA.
KEA has asked the colleges to conduct two preparatory exams and sent eight OMR per student (four subjects 4\2 OMR) to the colleges. Principals of the respective colleges have been asked to prepare a question paper for 60 marks and conduct preparatory exams.
Registrations begin
On day one of the KCET-2025 registration, as many as 3,738 (till 6.30 p.m.) have registered on Thursday. It is the first time KEA has introduced an OTP-based, artificial intelligence (AI) generated facial recognition system. However, there were no technical glitches reported from students while submitting the applications online.
