The Finance Department has approved the release of ₹211 crore for three-tier panchayats and urban local bodies.

The sum represents one instalment of the general purpose funds, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Saturday (December 28, 2024). Under it, grama panchayats are eligible for ₹ 150 crore, block panchayats ₹ 10 crore, district panchayats ₹ 7 crore, municipalities ₹ 26 crore and corporations ₹ 18 crore, Mr. Balagopal said.

“The State government has so far disbursed ₹ 10,011 crore to local self government institutions in the current fiscal,” he said.

The Minister added that the government was committed to providing the full amount earmarked for local bodies in spite of the financial crunch “caused by Central government policies.”
