Kerala govt eases treasury restrictions

The Finance department has eased the curbs on the treasury in clearing bills up to ₹25 lakh.

The department issued directives on Tuesday to the Treasury department enhancing the ways and means limit to ₹25 lakh from the ₹5 lakh set in September after the Onam season.

It is understood that the latest decision is directed at settling pending bills of government contractors.

The government had placed restrictions on the treasury from clearing bills over ₹5 lakh in 2023 citing financial crunch. In June this year, the department had eased the curbs, which were then reinstated in September.

In August this year, the Cabinet had recommended drastic cuts in the spending on projects and schemes as part of reworking the plan allocation for the 2024-25 fiscal.
