Summer rain is likely to continue in Kerala, powered by an upper cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. A yellow alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for six districts – Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad – on Saturday (April 5, 2025) warning of heavy rain.
Four districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Wayanad – have been put on yellow alert on Sunday (April 6).
According to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD on Saturday, the cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman and its neighbourhood now lies over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood. A north-south trough also runs from the north of central Maharashtra to north Tamil Nadu and across interior Karnataka.
Under the influence of the weather systems and confluence of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely across Kerala for the next two days (Saturday and Sunday), said the weather bulletin.
Meanwhile, Konni in Pathanamthitta recorded the highest rainfall of 70 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Alathur in Palakkad, Vadakara in Kozhikode and Malampuzha in Palakkad with 60 mm each.
