The family members of Janupalli Srinivasa Rao who is accused of attempting to murder Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy with a Kodi – Kathi (a knife used in cockfights) in October 2018, when he was Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, met TDP Politburo member Varla Ramaiah at the party office near Mangalagiri on Monday.
They expressed anguish that they were struggling to make both ends meet as Srinivasa Rao had been languishing in jail for more than six years now, and requested Mr. Ramaiah to convey their woes to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, whom they tried to meet, but in vain as he was preoccupied with official programmes.
Accompanied by advocate Abdul Saleem, the family members of Srinivasa Rao told Mr. Ramaiah that they were facing a severe financial crunch and were barely able to make a living out of small chores, while Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy was deliberately not appearing in the courts in spite of him being the purported victim.
As the case dragged on in courts for years, it became extremely difficult to meet the expenditure thereof, they said, and appealed for a job for one of them. Besides, they pointed out that they informed Nara Lokesh about their misery during his Yuvagalam Padayatra at Pithapuram.
Reacting to the grievance of Srinivasa Rao’s family, Mr. Ramaiah said Dalits faced the most injustice during the YSR Congress Party regime, assured them of help from the party, and suggested to them to meet the CM on Saturdays.
