Kunal Kamra failed to appear before Mumbai police for third time

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra failed to appear before the Mumbai police for a third time on Saturday in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly calling Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a traitor, an official said.

Khar police booked Mr. Kamra after Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel registered a complaint for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Mr. Shinde during his stand-up comedy show in Delhi.

Meanwhile, Rahool Kanal, the social media in-charge of Mr. Shinde, in a post, appreciated the CEO of online ticketing platform BookMyShow Ashish Hemrajani for allegedly removing Mr. Kamra’s shows from the artists’ list on the app.

Mr. Kamra’s show, on which he had made a joke about the split in the Shiv Sena, was uploaded on YouTube. Following which, party workers ransacked the India Habitat Centre where the show had taken place on March 23. 

Mumbai police asked Mr. Kamra to appear before it on April 5. This is the third summons issued so far. Earlier this week, the Khar police visited Mr. Kamra’s residence in Mahim after he had skipped the previous two summons.
