Aland MLA B.R. Patil has said that his resignation from the post of Adviser to the Chief Minister was based on valid reasons and not mere impulse.
Speaking to mediapersons in Kalaburagi on Sunday, Mr. Patil dismissed speculation that his resignation was his pressure tactics to secure a berth in the Council of Ministers in the Siddaramaiah government.
“I never stoop so low as to resign from my post just to pressurise the Chief Minister for a Ministerial berth. I am not a politician of that sort. Is getting a Ministerial berth a fundamental right? There are thousands of politicians who have not become even legislators in their lifetime. I did not enter politics with the ambition of becoming an MLA or MLC. It was the former Chief Minister S.R. Bommai who insisted that I contest the Assembly elections. He provided me with party ticket and encouraged me to run for office. I have since been elected to the Legislative Assembly four times and I have served one stint in the Legislative Council. That is more than enough for me. I will not contest the next Assembly elections,” he said.
When pressed about the reasons for his resignation, Mr. Patil declined to elaborate publicly saying that he will discuss the matter with the Chief Minister if he is interested.
“I was unable to contribute meaningfully to my constituency or focus on other priorities. I hold no grievances against anyone. There is an attempt to stir up unnecessary controversy around my resignation. I wrote to the Chief Minister twice, raising critical issues. Currently, he is occupied with budget preparations and the MUDA case. I will speak with him later,” he explained.
