NGO urges Defence Standing Committee to take up SCB-GHMC merger

The Cantonment Vikas Manch, a citizens’ group based out of the Secunderabad Cantonment area, has written a follow-up letter to Radha Mohan Singh, chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, seeking urgent deliberation on the proposed excision of civil areas from Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) and their merger with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

In its letter, the NGO underscored the hardships faced by nearly 4.5 lakh residents of Secunderabad Cantonment due to limited infrastructure, budgetary constraints, and lack of adequate civic services. It argued that integration with GHMC would pave the way for better infrastructure, governance, and public services.

“We request that this matter be discussed in the upcoming Defence Standing Committee meeting this month. Your leadership in ensuring the merger of Secunderabad Cantonment with GHMC will be a significant step towards addressing the long-standing issues faced by its residents,” said Sanki Ravinder Babu, general secretary of the Cantonment Vikas Manch.

The NGO has also sent letters to all 31 Members of Parliament who are part of the Defence Standing Committee, urging their support for the proposal.
